Daughters of the Yam is a spiritual care and theological education space and community for those reclaiming their bodies as sacred after experiencing harm in religious spaces.

You don’t have to leave your body to be holy.

About

If you left church but still carry the shame,
If your body still holds what your mind has unlearned,
If you’ve been taught to shrink, silence, or separate from yourself to be accepted,
If you’ve ever felt like you had to choose between your body and your spirituality,

You are not alone in this.

You were taught your body was dangerous to God.
That teaching was the danger.

The split you feel between your spirit and your body was not natural. It was learned.

What we carry after experiencing religious harm is not personal fault. It is the result of a theology that required your disconnection to survive.

There is language for this. And there is a way back to yourself.

To learn how our theological approach to healing can aid you in your journey back to wholeness, take our free DOTY assessment.

Touch Me Not Embodiment

The work we do is grounded in Touch Me Not Embodiment (TMNE) theology. TMNE names the wound before it offers the path.

It is not a belief system to adopt--it is a way of seeing what has already happened to you, and beginning the work of return.

Your body was never the problem.

The theology was.

"My body left the church before I had language for why.

At 17, I was faced with a choice between my spirituality and my identity. And I chose to leave whole.

But leaving did not immediately create freedom.

It created distance — between what I believed, what I felt, and what I had been taught to fear in myself.
